• Le sale discours

    David Wahl

    Cet ouvrage s'adresse à tous les jeunes qui aiment jouer à Minecraft et qui souhaitent s'initier à la programmation pour aller plus loin. Et quitte à découvrir le code, autant s'initier à Python, un langage puissant, facile à assimiler et amusant.

    En programmant dans Minecraft, tu pourras rendre tes aventures encore plus passionnantes, originales et personnelles. Tu détourneras en outre des éléments du jeu pour les faire agir de façon totalement inédite, voire en inventer de nouveaux auxquels même les créateurs du jeu n'avaient pas songé.

    Au fil de ta lecture, tu verras entre autres comment :

    écrire des programmes en Python sur ton Mac, PC ou Raspberry Pi ;

    /> créer des maisons, des structures et fabriquer une machine à dupliquer des éléments du jeu ;

    interagir avec le jeu à l'aide de circuits électroniques très simples ;

    créer des objets intelligents et coder un programme d'invasion alien ;

    concevoir d'impressionnantes structures 2D et 3D comme des sphères et des pyramides ;

    imaginer et développer ton propre mini-jeu interactif.

    Tu as peut-être déjà atteint un niveau expert dans le jeu, mais tu te sens limité par le temps que tu passes à bâtir de nouvelles structures. Ou peut-être souhaites-tu trouver un moyen d'augmenter encore les capacités du jeu en y ajoutant des fonctionnalités intelligentes et d'automatisation. Quelles que soient tes raisons, ce livre t'accompagnera tout au long de tes aventures de programmation dans Minecraft.

    La deuxième édition de cet ouvrage est 100% compatible avec la dernière version de Python et propose un nouveau chapitre consacré au petit ordinateur programmable micro:bit de la BBC.

  • Ectoparasites are of growing significance in modern veterinary medicine and a detailed understanding of the biology of these parasites is fundamental to their appropriate treatment and control. The authors of this book have therefore provided a complete overview of the biology, and behaviour of arthropod ectoparasites along with the pathology and treatment of diseases in livestock and companion animals of temperate habitats. This is the only up-to-date book available written specifically for practitioners and students of veterinary medicine, animal husbandry and applied animal sciences. Such a unique volume is essential because in veterinary parasitology, ectoparasites such as the lice, mites, ticks, fleas or dipteran agents of myiasis assume far greater prominence than in other parasitological disciplines. Ectoparasite infestation of domestic and companion animals, therefore, has overt clinical features requiring a distinct approach to diagnosis and control. This book has been written with this in mind. The text takes a unique integrated approach combining both ectoparasite biology and veterinary dermatology. In the second edition of this successful book (previously, entitled Veterinary Parasitology), the detailed coverage of individual ectoparasite species has been expanded. Up-to-date information of new veterinary drugs and modes of application has been included and the practical clinical relevance of the information has been strengthened.

  • L'Enfant-Mandragore Nouv.

    L'Enfant-Mandragore

    David Vall

    Novembre 1970.

  • Slavoj Zizek

    ,

    Zizek demands we take a long, hard look at the painful reality of education in contemporary capitalist society, and to actively seek out its `trouble in paradise': Why is it education is supposedly failing to meet the demands of our society? Why is it there are record levels of stress for teachers? Why is it there is a record level of complaints from our university students? How is it now possible to compare a higher education course with a vacuum cleaner, toaster or television? This book illuminates aspects of Zizek's ideas which sheds light into these modern challenges and tensions in education, and considers alternative ways forward. Though Zizek frustrates as much as he inspires with his own recipe of Lacan, Hegel and Marx, this book aims to give an entry route into Zizekian critique of education, a topic area he very rarely directly talks about.

  • Practicing Disability Studies in Education: Acting Toward Social Change celebrates the diversity of contemporary work being developed by a range of scholars working within the field of Disability Studies in Education (DSE). The central idea of this volume is to share ways in which educators practice DSE in creative and eclectic ways in order to rethink, reframe, and reshape the current educational response to disability. Largely confined to the limitations of traditional educational discourse, this collective (and growing) group continues to push limits, break molds, assert the need for plurality, explore possibilities, move into the unknown, take chances, strategize to destabilize, and co-create new visions for what can be, instead of settling for what is. Much like jazz musicians who rely upon one another on stage to create music collectively, these featured scholars have been - and continue to - riff with one another in creating the growing body of DSE literature. In sum, this volume is DSE «at work.»

  • De chair et de marbre

    David Vall

  • Anglais Community Organizing

    David S. Walls

    • Polity
    • 3 Février 2015

    This incisive book provides a critical history and analysis of community organizing, the tradition of bringing groups together to build power and forge grassroots leadership for social, economic, racial, and environmental justice. Begun by Saul Alinsky in the 1930s, there are today nearly 200 institution-based groups active in 40 U.S. states, and the movement is spreading internationally.
    David Walls charts how community organizing has transcended the neighborhood to seek power and influence at the metropolitan, state, and national levels, together with such allies as unions and human rights advocates. Some organizing networks have embraced these goals while others have been more cautious, and the growing profile of community organizing has even charged political debate. Importantly, Walls engages social movements literature to bring insights to our understanding of community organizing networks, their methods, allies and opponents, and to show how community organizing offers concepts and tools that are indispensable to a democratic strategy of social change.
    Community Organizing will be essential reading for advanced undergraduates and graduate students of sociology, social movements and social work. It will also inform organizers and grassroots leaders, as well as the elected officials and others who contend with them.

  • Dementia is increasingly and widely recognised as a serious health and social challenge, in the developed world as well as in the developing world. The need therefore to design and implement dementia care services of high quality is becoming more and more vital, particularly given the likelihood of ever increasing demand in a world, which likely sees resources at best remaining at current levels.Designing and Delivering Dementia Services describes current developments in the design and configuration of dementia services. It offers an informative and detailed overview of what constitutes high quality care, considering the circumstances patients and carers may find themselves in.For dementia to get the priority it deserves, a number of factors are important and the book charts the invaluable contributions of various Alzheimer's Associations and Societies: this provides a focus on dementia strategies and plans at national levels: the book reports on the state of affairs regarding such strategies and provides a unique insight into the process of how one of these was developed and implemented.Recognising the need to prove that service developments lead to a higher quality of care, increased productivity and increased efficiency, the book links the resulting picture to service-based research methodologies, with an emphasis on the strengths and limitations of that research.Contributions from 17 countries on 4 continents give an overview of the state of affairs across the world, paying attention to successful - and less successful - initiatives to improve dementia care. The book furthermore provides pragmatic approaches to ensure planning becomes reality, highlights the need for structured workforce development, education and training and describes the opportunities afforded by assistive technology.This book is of prime informative and practical value given that pressures on dementia services are projected to mount across the world against a backdrop of limited resources and expertise.Designing and Delivering Dementia ServicesDefines the problems involved in meeting an increasing demand for dementia care services in a poorer worldMaps initiatives and developments in the design and configuration of these services in a variety of international settingsAnalyses these developments against the background of political and health economic circumstancesProvides a road map of where health services should go in response to this growing challenge.The first book to define, analyse and map initiatives for dementia care services in a time of increasing demand and decreasing resources, this book is essential reading for commissioners, senior clinicians and service planners in health and social care. It will also be of interest to academic researchers involved in qualitative services research as well as quantitative health economic research, health and social care managers and those involved in workforce planning and development.
